Illum Sphere
Described as “one of the most special and unique artists to come out of the UK” by Hyperdub’s first lady, Ikonika, Illum Sphere has had a busy time since his debut ‘The Incoming EP’ landed in 2009 on hometown label, Fat City. Invitations to play at LA institution Low End Theory (the second English person to do so after Mary Anne Hobbs) and 2010′s Red Bull Music Academy in London, through to remix requests from Radiohead to Lorn to Zed Bias, he has already become one the UK’s most hotly tipped producers, whilst remaining outside the London hype machine. Add to that the gleaming praise given by all those that play his groundbreaking Hoya:Hoya night in Manchester, an EP on Martyn’s 3024 imprint, support from Radiohead front man Thom Yorke, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Brainfeeder’s Gaslamp Killer, Lorn, Ras G and Daedelus, 2011 cemented Illum Sphere’s place among the underground music elite.
